Lady Jane’s Salon
23Romance authors read aloud from their work on the first Monday of every month in the Soho district of New York City. The cover charge for Lady Jane’s Salon is $5 or “one gently used romance novel.” Net proceeds from the events support an end-of-year donation to a NYC women’s charity.
Lady Jane’s Salon was launched in 2009 by three romance authors (Maya Rodale, Hope Tarr, Leanna Renee Hieber) and a book blogger (Ron Hogan). Their series features romance writers from all the romance subgenres, from inspirational love stories to suspense thrillers with murder and mayhem. My crew and I were there with with camera and sound gear the month that Karen Rose, Dianna Love, Carrie Lofty, Sarah MacLean, Eloisa James, and Leanna Renee Hieber were reading. We had a great time!
Regularly scheduled romance fiction readings, salons like Lady Jane’s, are now springing up around the country.
Would you like a reading series to start in your area? Who would be your dream “readers”?
When you hear a novel being read aloud, does it change your experience? How?

Adored the video! You totally and beautifully captured the spirit of Lady Jane’s. Now in our fourth year in NYC with three satellite salons nationwide, we are honored to fill this important niche in our communities — the very real need to believe in and embrace Happily Ever After again.

Thanks Hope! We’re glad you feel we captured the spirit of Lady Jane’s. We had a great time shooting! Please keep us posted…and let us know when you find out about romance salons springing up in other cities!
What a fabulous video and a terrific and fun introduction to the world of Romance and Lady Jane’s Salon! Having attended several events, I know what a great time it is, and an evening fuller of laughter and camaraderie you cannot find in Manhattan.
Lady Jane’s has had such success thanks both to the intrepid founders, as well as all the authors who have supported and read there and in today’s current excited romance climate, certainly much more success is on the way!
Thank you for this terrific little documentary glimpse into our world.
Thanks Lise! Glad you liked it!
Let us know what you think about our other blogs, too…..we’re open to any and all suggestions…..
What a fantastic video. I love going to Lady Jane’s and you perfectly captured the spirit of the room, the love of the story. Thanks for this.
We love having you, Kwana. See you on Monday!
Thanks Kwana!
When, oh, when are we getting a Lady Jane’s special salon in Cincinnati (I’m lookin’ at you, Ms. Hieber!)?
I’m really interested in the spread of romance salons around the country. So Keri, keep us posted!
Congratulations on 4 great years, and the wonderful job you all have done! Love the videos and information posted to your site.
Thanks so much, Linda!
Thanks Linda! What info at the site do you find most interesting???
We’re discovering what works for people as we go….
Glad you liked what we’re doing so far!
Loved the video!! I attended my first “reading” at the Naperville, IL location of Lady Jane’s Salon just last month. Hope Tarr was one of the fabulous authors reading that night along with: Cherry Adair, Tracey Devlyn, Laurie B. London and Traci Hall. Choc-tini’s – good books – great friends (new and old!) — donations to a worthy cause — doesn’t get much better than that!
I can’t wait to make it the New York location on one my trips to the big city this summer.
Until then…Hugs and happy reading,
Nancy
Thanks, Nancy! Adrienne and Tracey (co-founders of the Naperville satellite) are reading at our NYC salon on Monday, August 6th! Road trip…?
Thanks Nancy!
I live in NYC, so I have no excuse not to attend this on a regular basis. When it comes to be a romance reader, I’m still a newbie but I like to learn and this seems like a great place to find others who share my literary passion.
Do join us, Brooklyn! We have loads of fun, plenty of passion, and we love seeing new faces along with the familiar.
Thanks friends for all the kind words! Lise and Kwana, thanks RWA NYC darlings!
Thank you Laurie for coming to visit us, we’re so proud of our Salon, our amazing readers, the Romance genre, our incredible Salon family and the charity angle we support, and we’re so blessed by the work of the Popular Romance Project as a whole. What a wonderful creation and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it!
Keri, if I was more often in Cincinnati, you know I’d start one! But alas, I’m usually on my home turf during someone else’s party.
Nancy, you’re a peach. Yes, as Hope said, come visit us.
Brooklyn – Yes!!! Again, seconding Hope, come visit us!!!
Keep us posted, Laurie, we cannot wait to continue supporting and loving the Popular Romance Project!
I love this idea and I only recently discovered the talented authors in the Heart of Carolina have started their own chapter of Lady Jane’s Salon. Looking forward to attending for the first time in May.
Love the video! This was such a great event and was actually what inspired Tracey and I to open the Naperville location.
It’s such a terrific concept and kudos to Maya, Hope, Leanna and Ron for starting the trend!
Great video! Lady Jane’s Salon RDU is proud to be a part of this wonderful movement. It really is wonderful to experience a room full of people who are thrilled to celebrate romance–and do some good at the same time!
Laurie, your video brought back great memories of last summer! As Adrienne said, we loved the whole experience so much that we had to bring it to our neck of the woods. If you’re ever in Chicago, give us a holler.
Really looking forward to reading at the NYC salon in August. It’ll be great to see Hope, Leanna, Maya and Ron again.
Thanks again for the wonderful video!
